Mazda2 Media Launch 2023 Press Reviews
The latest Mazda2 has been comprehensively updated for 2023, and in September the brand showcased its fresh new look and features to Australian media in a novel and fun way, highlighting its ideal suitability as a first car or for those who are just starting their driving career.
Attending guests – many of whom were young drivers themselves – were challenged to take part in a host of high-energy, dynamic courses, ranging from a reverse slalom and motorkhana to a braking test, parking challenge, timed tyre change and maintenance challenge. The media launch then culminated in guests ‘re-taking’ their driving test.
As they’re all highly experienced drivers, a twist was presented in the form of a tough quiz asked of them at the same time as the driving test, with some curveball challenges and discreet distractions also thrown in to up the ante.
A two-hour drive loop on a mix of highway, country roads and urban areas also presented the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the Mazda2’s benchmark driving dynamics and impressively refined ride.
Here is a sample of what the Australian media had to say about their time behind the wheel of the 2023 Mazda2:
“While the GT is the real peach, the entry-level manual G15 Pure is absolutely the pick for cheap thrills and charming style” – Chasing Cars
“The Mazda2 is a joy to drive in most circumstances, with a lively but confidence-inspiring chassis and controls that give a connected feel to the road” – Carsguide
“It has one of the nicest rides of any car south of $30,000 AUD” – CarSauce
“I am very happy a manual is still available. It provides a great entry level option for those looking to learn – like me – or those looking for an “affordable” manual as a run around” – Car Expert
“Combined, the Mazda2’s fresh looks, ease of use, fit, finish and driving enjoyment see it maintain a class-leading package” – Carsales
CHOOSE YOUR GRADE
All Mazda2s feature a responsive and eager G15 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, now offering even greater fuel efficiency and lower CO2 output when paired with the Skyactiv six-speed automatic transmission.
The entry-level Pure model grade is also available as a 6-speed manual, and benefits from the same crisp shift and positive pedal response that is enjoyed in the iconic Mazda MX-5.
Three other model grades – Pure SP, Evolve and GT – build on the Pure specification and offer a extensive list of safety equipment and create comforts – including an Active Driving Display, 360-degree View Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition and Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC).
Alternatively, the Mazda2 is also available in Pure and GT grades as a Sedan, with an increased luggage capacity and the same great driving dynamics.
All models feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
